WORKSHOP OVERVIEW

Well developed workplace policies and procedures are critical in maximizing employee/employer potential by creating standards on how people management issues are handled. These policies further contribute to the attainment of strategic goals for any entity. The New Employment Code Act No. 3 of 2019  enlists a total of six (6) HR policies and procedures which every employer must have in place. Employers were given a one (1) year transition period [from 9th May 2019 to 8th May 2020] within which to ensure that provisions of the Act are implemented. Since the deadline is fast approaching and to ensure that all companies are compliant with the Employment Code Act, KSM will be running a workshop on Developing Mandatory HR Policies and Procedures.

This workshop will identify the Mandatory HR policies as outlined in the Act, then delve into the intricacies of HR policies and procedure development, empower participants with skill, knowledge and tools to enable them to develop these policies and procedures, get buy-in from top management and effectively implement and enforce these policies and procedures.

ATTENDEES WILL HAVE PRACTICAL HANDS-ON PRACTICE IN HR POLICY AND PROCEDURES FORMULATION CUSTOMISED TO THEIR UNIQUE WORKPLACES.

·         Learn how to draft a Performance Management Policy and other mandatory policies highlighted in the EMPLOYMENT CODE ACT No. 3 of 2019.

·         Understand the benefits of having these policies and implementing them.

·         Align some of these policies to your institution’s strategic goals.  

·         Step by step guidance on how to Draft/Review their HR Handbook and other vital HR policies with emphasis on current Employment Code Provisions.

·         Understand the application and implication of the Key aspects of various HR policies 

·         Understand strategies for designing effective HR Policies that maximize productivity at a workplace

·         Learn how to co-opt other provisions of the Law in coming up with effective HR policies

·         Get buy-in from top management and members of staff

·         Introduction and overview of Employment Code Act No. 3 highlighting the requirement and importance of the mandatory HR policies and procedures.

·         Identify the six (6) Mandatory policies and their importance (Employment policy, procedure and code, HIV and AIDS policy, Health and Wellness policy, Harassment policy, performance management policy, Grievance procedure and Code of Conduct.)

·         Analyze the process of formulating HR policies.

·         Key areas to consider when formulating and reviewing the policy.

·         Itemize key contents for each policy.  

·         Difference between policy and procedure – how to reflect these in your writing.

·         How to effectively adopt the New Employment Code into the HR policies aiming at high productivity at a workplace.

·         Principles for drafting – Research and mind mapping.

·         Aligning HR policies and procedures to the organisation's strategic goals.

Dr Kelvin Moyo Sokuni, CEO and Founder - KSM Management Consultants – Zambia

With over 22 years of work experience in senior strategic HR management roles, Dr Kelvin Moyo Sokuni was recognized and honoured as an Ambassador of Peace by the governing body of the Interfaith Peace-building Initiative and the Committee Leaders of the Golden Rule International for being a pioneer in providing corporate training to organizations and uplifting the standards and skills of people in society, for being SELFLESS in assisting many and for being a leader in various institutions including the Church and many other institutions where he has been appointed as Board member.  His work precedes him. The award Dr Sokuni received has also been conferred on more than 14 Presidents including the 1st Republican President of Zambia, Dr Kenneth  Kaunda.

Dr Sokuni is a Fellow of ZIHRM, an accomplished and solid HR Practitioner who has previously worked for Zambia Revenue Authority in various HR Portfolios. He worked as Head of HR for Telecel (MTN) Zambia, Dunavant - Zambia Ltd as Head of HR and as Director Human Resource for Barclays Bank Zambia Plc. A holder of a PhD, Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA), Bachelor Degree of Business Administration, Diploma in Human Resource Management and various management qualifications. Dr Sokuni currently owns and runs 3 companies under the umbrella of KSM GROUP.
